I have organized, promoted and even hosted live events and meetings for employee groups ranging from 20 to 20,000 for WestRock and others.
At Capital One, I learned the ropes of putting on site-wide town halls, department-wide meetings and smaller project team events. At UTi Worldwide, I expanded my skills to include webcast events, and hosted the company's global quarterly all-employee meeting, LiveLink. This involved working with the CEO and other senior leaders to develop content; nailing down event logistics and vendor support; promoting the event through internal communications channels; and hosting the quarterly meeting itself (introducing speakers, managing Q&As, etc.).
I also supported a major international off-site meeting for the company's top 200 leaders.
Client Events, Industry Conferences and Trade Shows
While at UTi, I also saw the sales and marketing potential of events developed for existing and prospective customers. These two-day gatherings of 30-50 participants were hosted at inviting locales around the world and included professional speakers, industry experts and UTi leaders who conducted informational sessions; creative workshops and team-building exercises; and practical break-outs aimed at solving common client problems.
On a day-to-day basis at UTi, I managed web and social media communications for the numerous industry conferences and trade shows where company representatives were attending, exhibiting and/or speaking/presenting. This also involved working with event staff to secure panel participation and other opportunities to maximize the value of the company's event sponsorships.
For WestRock and other prior employers and clients, I have managed communications related specifically to community events, most recently for WestRock's annual "cardboard boat regatta" in the town of Longview, Washington, which involved:
- Sponsorship coordination, budgeting, logistics and staffing
- Day-of-the-event hosting, contest judging and media relations
- Employee communications and social media promotion
